I have known Terry and Kerry since before they were a couple. We met working on a film festival in the Middle East and I had the honor of watching their love bloom. Terry is from London and Kerry is from the US and it really takes true love and dedication to make a long distance relationship last.
Their love story begins on a hot desert day in a dusty parking
lot outside of our office buildings at Katara, The Cultural Village in Doha,
Qatar. Terry was introduced to Kerry who was fresh in from the states. Terry
remembers thinking WOW what a
great smile and beautiful curly hair!
Terry and Kerry worked opposite each other in their office. She was helping to create production
drawings and he was on the other side of the wall divider. They kept looking at
each other like silly school kids but he knew then that he was falling for her.
On their official first date they went to dinner at Al Murjan,
one of the finest Lebanese restaurants in Doha, which overlooks the beautiful
turquoise water of the Arabian gulf. They didn’t want their date to end so
Terry snuck Kerry into a house party. They spent the whole time talking,
laughing and enjoying each others company.
They dated in secret for a short time before people started to
guess. Right from the start Terry knew Kerry would be his last girlfriend.
Terry says, “Kerry makes me be a better person and I love her for that”. Kerry knew Terry was the one for her because of many reasons. He
always made her feel special when they were together and that she was only girl
he could imagine being with. They also had an amazing way of keeping each other
laughing all the time.
Terry
was relaxed and 100% ready to ask Kerry to marry
him. Kerry secretly had been thinking that he would ask her and it would just
be perfect to have a professional photographer with them. But Terry had
convinced her that it wasn't going to happen and he hadn’t even bought a ring.
We walked around shooting casual shots of them together until we
found the perfect location. It was a
quieter area of the park where we could still see the city skyline. Terry’s cue
that he was going to propose was that he would say, “Isn’t this a winter
wonderland”. He gave me the cue and I gave him the wink and he turned towards
Kerry.
He started counting down all the days it had been since they first started dating. He kept interrupting his proposal with cute quick kisses. Kerry didn't know what was happening and why he was kissing her so much. She was trying to concentrate on his words and it all became clear when the magic words were uttered. She said “Yes” with a tear rolling down her cheek and the biggest smile imaginable. From then on, it was all adrenaline, no matter how cold it was!
